Enrichment
The Ravensbourne School’s vision is that every student is prepared to be the best they can be in life and able to create their own future.
We endeavour to provide an enriched curriculum inside and outside of the classroom, that is broad and balanced. We are committed to offer all students as far as possible, with excellent extra-curricular, educational visits and residential opportunities and all students are encouraged to take advantage of these.
Our extracurricular programme includes clubs within the performing arts, a wide range of sporting activities, language lessons, art and technology activities, science sessions, Lego modelling and construction, computing, debating clubs and many more. To check what is available and when, ensure you check our extra-curricular timetable, which is regularly updated. Educational visits have
included experiences visiting galleries, exhibitions, workshops, theatres, film studios, sports centres including climbing and skiing, to name but a few. Residential opportunities are also regularly offered these include Krakow for Philosophy, Barcelona with PE, Disneyland Paris with Dance and Hastings for Geography, these are just some of the recent visits, in addition there is the very popular annual skiing trip.
The Ravensbourne School believe enrichment activities are an integral part of our school approach to education and the curriculum. We recognise the benefits for pupil achievement, engagement, personal development and physical and mental well-being. These enrichment opportunities enable students to discover, develop and pursue interests and build a portfolio of different experiences and in some cases gain extra qualifications.
- Enrichment opportunities at TRS enhance student’s cultural capital, by ensuring all students are exposed to cultural experiences and background knowledge that will help them to succeed in life. These activities provide students with opportunities to develop the knowledge that they need to be educated citizens, by introducing them to experiences that will help them appreciate the creativity and achievement of others as well as their own.
- Student’s British values are developed through enrichment by allowing them to express their individual liberty through choice of the wide range of activities that are offered and regularly updated at TRS. Staff are committed to providing activities in a safe and consistent environment. Mutual respect is at the centre of life at TRS and students learn and demonstrate this value at school and when placed within different communities; for example, when competing in sports with different schools and when collaborating with others in performances and on educational visits.
- Enrichment activities help promote the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of students; and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. The activities offered to students allow a spiritual development through a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them. They provide opportunities for students to use a range of social skills in different contexts, for example working and socialising with other students and communities, including those from
different religious, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Their social skills are developed when they show a willingness to participate in a variety of communities and social settings, including volunteering experiences. Culturally students have the opportunity to develop their understanding and appreciation of the range of different cultures in the school and further afield as an essential element of their preparation for life in modern Britain. Students have opportunities to participate in and respond positively to many artistic, musical, sporting and cultural opportunities.
Enrichment opportunities can provide memorable experiences and in turn contribute to the richness of learning across the school curriculum.
