Personal Development Vision

Personal Development Vision

At The Ravensbourne School, Personal Development is central to our mission to develop confident, resilient and responsible young people who are prepared for life beyond school. Aligned with the Orion Education Trust Personal Development Framework, our provision is deliberately planned across all key stages to ensure every pupil benefits from a coherent, inclusive and ambitious programme that builds character, wellbeing, citizenship and future readiness.

Our Personal Development curriculum is rich, broad and diverse, embedded across daily school life and explicitly taught through assemblies, tutor time and a discrete PSHE programme. This includes Relationships and Sex Education, with a strong focus on consent, healthy relationships, sexual harassment awareness, mental and physical wellbeing, digital safety, and understanding the risks associated with drugs, alcohol and gambling. Careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) is woven throughout the programme, ensuring pupils are well informed about future pathways and equipped to make aspirational choices.

Assemblies and collective worship play a key role in promoting shared values and cultural understanding, incorporating national awareness days, safeguarding messages, equality, British values and SMSC themes. Religious, philosophical and ethical education is integral to our approach, encouraging pupils to think critically, debate ideas respectfully and develop well‑rounded, informed opinions. As pupils progress through the school, the curriculum is carefully spiralised, enabling them to revisit key themes with increasing depth and maturity.

We are responsive and flexible in our delivery. While our curriculum is clearly mapped, we actively adapt our provision to address contextual issues as they arise locally, nationally or globally, ensuring learning remains relevant and meaningful. Drop‑down days at Key Stages 4 and 5 provide additional depth, while a strong enrichment programme broadens horizons and gives all pupils access to opportunities, they may not otherwise experience.

Student leadership is a significant strength of the school. Our student leadership teams play an active role in shaping school culture and decision‑making, with roles rotating termly to maximise participation, choice and leadership experience for all.

The Ravensbourne Charter underpins our Personal Development offer and reflects our shared values of Ambition, Integrity and Excellence. Through the Charter, pupils are encouraged to take pride in their actions, engage positively with others and embrace both the opportunities and challenges of school life. By the end of our seven‑year journey, we aim to have unlocked each pupil’s potential, broadened their world view and prepared them to be thoughtful, active and responsible citizens within their communities and the wider world.
