Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a long-established programme that helps young people build confidence, resilience and practical skills through purposeful activities. At The Ravensbourne, we encourage students to take part in a structured and supportive way, with clear goals and regular reflection. The programme is designed to suit different interests and abilities, making it a valuable opportunity for secondary-aged learners across the UK.

Parents often ask what their child will be doing. Depending on the level, students complete sections in volunteering, developing skills and taking part in physical activities, alongside an expedition that encourages teamwork, planning and safe decision-making. Throughout the year, learners are guided by staff and supported by peers, with milestones that help them stay motivated and understand how their efforts contribute to progress and achievement.

Taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award can also strengthen wider life skills that are useful for education, employment and personal wellbeing. It promotes goal-setting, time management and communication, while developing independence and responsibility. We believe this is an excellent programme for families who want their children to gain meaningful experience, build character and be proud of what they achieve together.
