Welcome to the Mathematics department at The Ravensbourne School. The department has undergone change over the last few years and has gone from strength to strength. At KS3 and GCE our results have improved significantly in the last few years and at GCSE, changes made within the department in the last two years have led to a significant improvement in our results.
Department Facilities and Resources
We currently have 7 dedicated mathematics classrooms. All rooms are equipped with the latest interactive whiteboards and software.
We use a variety of equipment and materials in our teaching. These include:
Follow - me cards, washing lines, flash cards, student whiteboards, place value cards, scientific calculators, graphical calculators, projectors and mathematical programs such as Autograph.
Students also have the use of computer rooms where concepts are reinforced using www.MyMaths.com DLK mathematics software to reinforce class work.
Department Aims
All students are expected to take an active role in developing their individual knowledge, understanding and skills in mathematics.
- To progress students knowledge, understanding and skills in a wide range of topic areas
- To develop students use of a range of mathematical techniques to solve problems
- To develop students problem solving skills
- To promote moral and cultural issues relating to mathematics
- To encourage students to work independently or as part of a team in order to solve problems
- To develop students knowledge of mathematical language
- To equip each student with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills required for their chosen career path and citizenship.
