Languages

Bienvenu Bienvenido

photoWelcome to the Language Department at the Ravensbourne School. We teach two languages: French and Spanish to students of all ages and have successful results at both GCSE , AS-Level and A-Level. We also encourage students to try for an Open University qualification, too.

At present all pupils follow one language throughout Keystage 3 whcih can be chosen for Keystage 4 & 5.

Vision

“Foreign languages develop students’ understanding and appreciation of different countries, cultures, people and communities, making students aware that they are citizens of Europe, indeed the world as well as of the UK.

Improved communications, greater opportunities for travel and the increasingly multicultural composition of our society mean that the distance and national frontiers are no longer a barrier to contact with a rich diversity of people from different cultural backgrounds. As well as contributing to students’ development as citizens, MFL courses have the potential to enrich their lives.

  • They lay the foundations for the study of other languages later in life
  • They broaden the range and variety of accessible careers, improving employability and facilitating personal mobility.
  • They enable students to communicate with speakers of other languages
  • They extend the students’ knowledge of the foreign language being studied.
  • They provide students with the skills and understanding to access information in other languages.”
