Key Stage 3
The students follow Schemes of Work which have all been collaboratively devised by the English Department in line with the National Curriculum. Each unit incorporates the strands covering speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as ICT. They are differentiated to cater for the needs of all students and are regularly updated. Most units occupy one half-term’s worth of lessons.

| Year 9: This year is mainly spent preparing the students for their SATs exams in May after which the GCSE Literature course is started. | ||

| Preparing for the Reading and Writing Papers: Students study a wide range of non-fiction and media texts for analysis as well as learning about and practising different writing styles covered by the following triplets:
| Preparing for the Shakespeare Paper: ‘Romeo & Juliet’ for 2009. Students will get the opportunity to see a production of the play performed within school. Students are prepared for the exam where they may be asked to write in role as a character; as a director; writing an analysis of a character; analysing the mood of a set scene. | SATs revision followed by studying one of the prose set texts for GCSE English Literature: ‘Of Mice and Men’ by John Steinbeck. |
