Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4

The Design and Technology Department at The Ravensbourne School offers a range of academic and vocational pathways at Ks4 to suit individual students. Students have been working in their opted focus areas on GCSE Short Courses for the duration of Year 9. It is anticipated and highly recommended that all students continue with these options. However, there may be opportunity for some students to change their focus area for Ks4.

Graphics

GCSE (double award) Manufacturing: Printing and Publishing

This Graphics course is worth two GCSE's and consists of three equally weighted units. It lets students be both creative and technical using a wide range of resources including ICT. It also provides students with a secure knowledge and understanding of commercial processes ideal for further vocational education or training.

AS level Product Design: Graphics with Materials Technology

This Graphics course is a fast-track AS level. This means that students selected will study an AS level over two years - bypassing GCSE altogether. Obviously, the demands of the course are greater than GCSE and students should be well motivated and keen to study Graphics to ‘A' level.

BTEC First Certificate: Graphics

This brand new course is concerned with introducing students to the construction industry. We are lucky enough to be a pilot centre for this course. For Unit 1 students will explore sustainability within the construction industry and produce a coursework project. Unit 2 specialises in carpentry and joinery skills for their practical element. A third examined unit is assessed on-line.

Textiles

BTEC First Certificate: Textiles
