BTEC National Diploma in Media Production (TV & Film) - Edexcel
What will I learn?
On this creative and innovative course you will cover a wide range of TV and Film production related units taught by specialist staff from each discipline. This is a practical, work related course where you learn by completing projects that are based on realistic workplace situations. This is an intensive course which provides you with essential preparation for entry to degree courses in broadcasting and other media disciplines. You will undertake 18 units of practical study including: practical production skills, broadcasting practice, location filming, TV studio production, animation and many other areas.
How will I be assessed?
The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Media Production consists of 18 units including 5 core units and a variety of specialist and professional units that combined, total guided learning hours 1080 (GLH) for the completed qualification.
FIVE Core units:
- Unit 1: Research Techniques for the Media Industries
- Unit 2: Pre-Production Techniques for the Media Industries
- Unit 3: Working to a Brief in the Media Industries
- Unit 5: Critical Approaches to Media Products
TWO Mandatory Specialist units:
- Unit 7: Understanding the Television and Film Industries
- Unit 15: Film and Video Editing Techniques
Specialist and Professional optional Units can include:
- Music Video Production
- Factual Programme Production
- Single Camera Techniques
- Stop Motion Animation
- Corporate & Promotional Video Production
- Multi Camera Techniques
- Video Technologies
All units are assessed through a 100% coursework portfolio and there is no assessment through external examination.
What can I do after I’ve completed the course?
Many of our students have gone onto study in some of the most prestigious media, broadcasting, animation and technical media courses in the country. This course will help to prepare you for a career in the Creative Industries in these and many other media disciplines. This qualification will provide opportunities for you to develop a range of skills and techniques, qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.
