KS5 BTEC Art & Design

 

BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design - Edexcel
 
What will I learn?
 
On this creative and innovative course you will cover a wide range of Art, Design and Media related units taught by specialist staff from each discipline. This is a practical, work related course where you learn by completing projects that are based on realistic workplace situations. This is an intensive course which provides you with essential preparation for entry to degree courses in Art and Design. You will undertake 18 units of practical study including: a structured programme of drawing and visual studies, photography, illustration, surface pattern, painting, printmaking, work experience and professional Art practice. 
 
How will I be assessed?
 
The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design consists of  18 units including 5 core units and a variety of specialist and professional units that combined, total guided learning hours 1080 (GLH) for the completed qualification.
 
FIVE Core units:
·      Unit 1:  Visual Recording in Art and Design
·      Unit 2:  Materials, Techniques and Processes
·      Unit 3:  Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design
·      Unit 4: Visual Communication in Art and Design
·      Unit 5: Contextual Influences in Art and Design
Specialist and Professional optional Units can include:
·      Photography/Darkroom practice
·      Illustration and Narrative Image Making
·      Surface Pattern for Fashion and Clothing
·      Public Sculpture and Community Art
·      Exploring Specialist Ceramic Techniques
·      Printmaking
·      Painting in Fine Art
·      Work Experience in Art and Design
All units are assessed through a 100% coursework portfolio and there is no assessment through external examination. 
 
What can I do after I’ve completed the course?
 
Many of our students have gone onto study in London’s most prestigious Art Foundation and Degree courses. This course will help to prepare you for a career in the Creative Industries, including: graphic design, fashion designer, set designer, props maker, copy writer, animator and public artist. This qualification will provide opportunities for you to develop a range of skills and techniques, qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.
