BTEC First Certificate in Art and Design - Edexcel

What will I learn?
You will enjoy a varied course which incorporates drawing, painting, three dimensional work, graphic design, animation, textiles, the critical analysis of other designer’s work, printmaking and ICT, all in response to work-related briefs. This course will help to prepare you for a career in the Creative Industries, including: graphic design, fashion designer, set designer, props maker, copy writer, animator and public artist. This qualification will provide opportunities for you to develop a range of skills and techniques, qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.
How will I be assessed?
100% Coursework
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Art and Design consists of two core units plus 1 specialist units that combined total 180 guided learning hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.
Core units:
1. 2D and 3D Visual Communication
- Contextual References in Art and Design
Specialist units:
- Working with Graphic Design Briefs
4. Working with Photography Briefs
- Working with Fashion Design Briefs
- Working with Textiles Briefs
- Working with 3D Design Briefs
- Working with Interactive Media Briefs
- Working with Visual Arts Briefs
- Working with 3D Design Crafts Briefs
All units are assessed through a coursework portfolio and there is no assessment through external examination.
What can I do after I’ve completed the course?
Many of our students go on to Post 16 to study the BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design, many of them have gone onto study an Art Foundation and University course later on. A BTEC in Art will help you find jobs in television, advertising, architecture, computer graphics, games and software design, the fashion industry, printing, publishing, media, display, photography, design, jewellery, journalism, sculpture, ceramics and teaching – to name a few.
