Welcome

 

Welcome to the Geography Department at The Ravensbourne School. The department encourages all pupils, regardless of their race, gender or ability to reach their full potential. The lessons are meaningful, purposeful and incorporate a wide range of teaching style. We strive for the highest standards in all that we do.

 

Objectives

 

  • To develop an interest in the environment
  • Understand the wider world
  • Appreciate the variety of physical and human conditions
  • Recognise interactions between the physical and human world
  • Encourage a sensitivity towards others and develop an understanding of an empathy towards multi-cultural societies
  • Gain a fuller understanding of controversial issues, allowing students to communicate their own informed judgements
  • Have respect for the environment and others
  • Build upon existing knowledge and skills through the enjoyment of learning
  • Develop an independent and group-work approach to enquiry-based learning
  • Be confident to work creatively
  • Ensure that students are stimulated by their work
  • Provide opportunities for students to take responsibility for their own learning
  • Enable students to discuss and reflect on moral issues
  • Value each student as an individual
  • Have a clear equal opportunities policy
