The Ravensbourne School
Centenary Celebrations 1911 – 2011

Education on our site began with the opening of Bromley County Grammar School for Boys in September 1911. In the early ‘70s the school became a Boys’ Comprehensive and in 1989 amalgamated with the local Girls’ School to become a mixed comprehensive school, The Ravensbourne School.

To commemorate and celebrate 100 years of educational success at Hayes Lane the school is planning a number of events to start in September 2011, aimed mainly at our own school community, but which ex-staff and students and residents of the local area are welcome to attend.

Early in 2011 we intend to publicize more fully what events will take place, but these are likely to include a Centenary exhibition in the Small Hall of school archive material and memorabilia (ex staff and students will be invited to lend items if they are likely to be of interest), a Prizegiving Evening, a Centenary Concert, a Performing/Media Arts Entertainment Evening and a Saturday Family Fun Day.
If you are interested in what we have planned, please look out for notices in the local newspapers, on our website and in the “Ravensbourne Review”.

Delighted to hear of these events. P A F Fox (a couple of years ago, flagged this up)and was (then) aware of much interest. Surprised that no comments have been logged.

I was at Bromley Grammar School from 1957 to 1964 and now live in Toronto, Canada (since 1970). I have recently been able to reconnect with a number of Old Bromleians through Friends reunited and I note a significant contingent of others also intersted in such connection. I'm also aware of significant interest in a formal reunion and the Centenary in 2011 is a most opportune occasion. I don't see any reference to such an event in this news item and I would urge you to consider it as a priority. Those who were members of the school in its first iteration for over 60 years are a dwindling number. This is a great opportunity for those in its current iteration to be connected with those from its early years. While it is difficult for me to take an overly active role here in Canada, I am fully prepared to do what I can to help organise but the school itself must and should take a leading role. I do know of others who would, I'm certain, be happy to help.

I attended BCGS from 1958 until 1964, and, through Friends Reunited have re-established contact with a few "best buddies" of the time. I, too, was flagged by Mr Fox (above) .. but was dismayed at the general apathy that surrounded, certainly, my peers. Time is running short now for some of us, and this re-union would be a great event, if it happens !!

BGS 1964-1971 - I too would be interested in any reunion plans and a mailing list to know what is going on during the centenary - living away I don't have any contact with local papers.
